Thread: What do your parents think?

My mother is also Pagan, so it's not an issue with her, although we do have a lot of differences of opinion on the subject.

My sister is an atheist, so I get the sense she thinks we're wacko about half of the time, but the other half she spends hanging out with us in the Circle.

My father...used to be very freaked out about all of it. When he found out about my mother, he did not take it well. To this day, she suspects that he destroyed her tarot deck and BoS, when he claims they got lost in the move from one house to another. While he lived with us, we practiced in the utmost secrecy.

He also always went through my room and raided my stuff when I wasn't home, which is how he eventually found out that I was Pagan too (and gay, that's also how he found out I was gay, it was a great day all around).

When my parents split in 2001, he moved out, and eventually started dating again. He had a long term girlfriend who also turned out to be Wiccan, and I don't know if she talked to him about it, or if he had a change of heart all on his own, but he's not freaked out anymore.

He's still not crazy about the idea, but there's nothing he can do. When he visits now, I see his eyes flicker over to the altar and bookcase, but that's about it.

As for the rest of my family- my grandmother was a novitiate at the convent when she met my grandfather, and they raised all twelve of their children just as hardcore Irish Catholic as they were. It's a no-go with any of them- aunts, uncles, cousins.

And cue curiosity: BoS?

Book of Shadows. A witche's diary. You write your magickal experiences (I also use mine as a "daily" journal) and magickal workings, notes, etc. Basically, anything that comes to mind or that you stumble across and don't want to forget on your path of The Craft. You can use anything from a binded book to a three-ring binder (that's all that mine is). Whatever works for you. [smile]

Oh, wow everyone. Sorry it took me so long to get back to the forum to read everyone's story. It was really therapeutic to read about everyone's experiences.

And, Saeoko, I am pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. Or at least, that is what I use my bos for...

Well, you've met my mom and she may look like she's kool with it, but... When she first found out, all I heard was "its a cult and you're poisoning your soul!" She found out in a very amusing way too! She checked the internet hostory. Â*Did the whole "responsible parent" thing and burned my first set of magick supplies.. and I swear that was the sweetest smelling fire I ever smelled LoL. Â*Anyway, after she realized I wasnt sacrificing goats to the dark father she got off me about it and only jokes about how wierd it is. Â*My rents arent very religious themselves, i was glad, because they know I dont take well to being forced into things.. Anyway, thats my story more or less.

I wouldn't have expected that from your mom...she seemed so chill.

Anyways, my parents never went as far to burn anything, but they've ripped me away from things that I was at with friends.

I've been accused of doing drugs because of the witchcraft too....bullcrap!

Quite the optimist, eh? I expected a "that @#!$$% burned my stuff!!" but instead, here we have the victim enjoying the scent lol. Bravo on handling that, you did so very well

Nahh, it takes quite a bit to make me angry as of late. thank you much for the compliment though, Adhamh. I really do wish i could bottle that scent though LoL

Wow... you have got my respect, Storms-Eye. I don't think I would be able to keep my cool if that had happened to me. Lol! If you remember what it was that got burned, you probably could find a way to recreate the scent! XD

LoL thanx. it was jus tall the random incence, candles and oils I had stockpiled away. but nahh, takes more than that to break me, all I need is all I have inside my head, and thats good enough for me. even if it did cost a small fortune LoL
