Re: men in Wicca
In my unending and ÂÂ*ongoing quest for knowledge I just recently came upon this tidbit...(Based on the theory that everything is magick, this deals with gender in magick)---- ÂÂ*To quote...
" The world of trade, politics and corporations is ruled by masculine magick and is normally uni-dimensional. Witchcraft is ruled by feminine magick and may operate in one to six diminsions at once. It is scary to those who don't unerstand it because it is occult or hidden from view. Do not be put off if you are a man. You can practice Witchcraft in the same way that women may be politically astute or succeed as CEO's. It can be done, but it is more difficult. You will have to make some compromises and either summon or develope a strong feminine side."
Witchcraft is a feminine Magical Art because the manipulation of energy is mostly attracting and repelling as is the nature of femininity.
Interesting, huh?

Re: men in Wicca
It is interesting, but I have my own reservations when it comes to the whole woman as "earth goddess" scenario.
Until Freud came along, the sexes were thought of as being complimentary to each other. They were seen as different but dependent on each other as both possess different qualities. Freud interpreted this as conflict and penis envy, something which has greatly influenced American pop psychology ever since.
Personally, I view men and women as equal and complimentary. You can't fully understand nor address one, without addressing their relation to the other.
When it comes to homosexuality, I somewhat feel its a shame that people are forced into one of 2 socially accepted gender expressions rather than being allowed to simply "be" without labels.
But I digress, I'm not really bothered by more women being into it... on the contrary!

I agree with Lupul in the respects of the "equal and complimentary" abilities in "men" and "women." To limit or uplift the qualities of one based on gender is biased and insulting to a great many people. The only difference that should be noted between men and women is that; men wear most their reproductive organs on the outside, while women are the bearers of children. Women are not the sole creators of life and it is not their sole responsibility to rear our young. Big deal, they can give birth! (Yes, an amazing ability.) However, they are not able to fertilize their own egg. (Speaking purely from a “naturalist” perspective, I am aware of the studies where an egg’s DNA has been used to fertilize another egg.)
Furthermore, what is to be said of transgender persons, gay men, and lesbians? I've known gay men (who enjoying being a man) but are more "feminine" than most women. I've known lesbians who are the epitome of what it is to be a "man." In regards for transgender persons, they are just as complex and diverse as those born biologically correct. I've had the privilege of knowing a great transgender (MtF) person who is attracted to both sexes but was meant to live this life as a women. (Gene phenotype is not always correct.)
Humanity is complex and as humans, we want to box everything up and place it into its nice cubbyhole. This is something psychologists have tried to do for years and they either fail or create new cubbyholes. The only correct number of categories to be used when describing human nature and ability is directly proportionate to the number of people alive on the earth at that moment in time.
As to the main topic of this thread, yes I am a bit dismayed at the out numbered men in Pagan religions. Decades have gone by with women dominating and even in some respects eliminating men from their religious practices. (A religion of limitations is a religion doomed to failure.) However, a generalized observance can be made as to why this continues. Men in all religious groups usually take a backseat role. This is even true in the Christian faith where men dominate the pulpit but the congregation is predominately women. Women as a majority are more concerned than men, about their spiritual health. Why? I have no idea. I could only speculate.
The only solution is to stop limiting religious practices to male and female roles. Who can and who cannot do something. If a coven wants to have receptive and projective energies, recognize that these energies can come from either gender. Heck, switch it up have your High Priest and High Priestess change roles from time to time. Just a thought.
Blessings of Ogma,
Tommy

I have no problem. I'm not Wiccan. I'm ITW (Irish Traditional Witch). I like being surrounded by ladies. I do not have to worry about men trying to imposes themselves on my fantastic, amazing wife.
May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.

Lol, there is no issue with being out numbered... Yes, the numbers tend to lean one way over another, but I personally don't see that as an issue. All that maters is that we all have something to offer and just remember that the universe is made up of both male and female energies
