A friend who is pagan, few non-pagan friends and I got drunk a few years ago and the pagan buddy starting rambling about how he was an assassin and he swore he was supposed to kill me but he didnt, we ran off and got married. I had to laugh at him about that. This same guy told a friend that in his past life he was a horse. to which my friend said, stunned, "Thats why I love sugar cubes!?"
Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything. At present you need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.

Are you still friends with the assassin? Usually when people tell me that they were sent to kill me I tend to look at that relationship. I think it is because I had a kooky roommate in college who was always speaking this way to us when he got drunk and mad at us. I lived in a house with some guys and girls in college, and so during college we didn't think too much about it, thought he was just blowing off steam. Then we started finding dismembered mice and cats around the backyard. Finally we confronted him and he left, very upset. After college we all went our separate ways and he went out to Las Vegas. He came back shortly thereafter and because he was upset with his parents murdered both of them in their sleep by stabbing both of them over 100 times. So since that time I am sensitive to what I would consider dysfunctional societal behavior.

I love your second remark Silent, very poetic.

    peace,
    JB

I once met a guy who claimed he could control the weather etc. If it rained he would sit on the sidewalk and twitch his fingers about, pretending to steer raindrops where he wanted them to fall. Quite strange.

Unfortunately, most of the Pagan people I have met in real life have just been too weird for me. Too focused on their supposed special powers, etc.

Jayne - aliens (walk-ins) do that all the time - and it is a good thing - when a person gets themselves in too DEEP - they can undo a lot of the karma that the compromised person created during their compromisation -- and fix things up a bit for the loved ones and persons left behind (if the compromisee is dying)
sometimes they stay only long enough to turn the person's life around and givethem a fresh start
you know - like in Quantum Leap
    ROTFLMAO

i guess what i am trying to say is... it isn't the talent, or the process, or type of magic that makes something (evil)
-- it is the INTENTION and effects
    isn't it?
please let me know if you disagree

btw -- i gave up reading Crowley before i turned 20 -- after several sporadic attempts
i learned on my own that he was a madman - a genius - but his books were full of blatant and subtle errors, mistakes, red herrings and non-sense
he seemed to disrupt all his own endeavors, destroy anything he created, alienate the closest of colleagues
and revel in his notoriety as a drug-addicted, perverse, egoist - probably demon-possessed.
UNTIL these last 2 or so years - when i inadvertantly found myself in the Abyss, finally granted magical power, and the Golden Dawn psychically communicating with me, all Hell breaking loose, etc.
    well since then
i think Crowley is the greatest genius in his field - a Michael Angelo- Da Vinci - Mozart - Einstein - no kidding
He saved my eternal ass -- now his writings all make sense to me - more than Buddhist sutras (of which he new a great deal at a time when most knew nothing)
and just consider how much all of us Pagans, Witches, and Magicians owe to his work - without Crowley there would be witchcraft - but no Wicca
the occult would still exist - but there would be no New Age
karmically-but-not- so-ironically - when i now imagine how the people around me might perceive ME, or think about me
LOL -- "the way i used to think about Crowley" is a pretty good match LOL

now i'm even into heavy metal

Don't we all as we pursue endeavors that are not always so good for our souls.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing re: Walk-ins, those that I have encountered usually take over the personality of the individual leading them down ever darkening paths and ultimately to madness. There is nothing to be gained by invoking any power into yourself.

    namaste,

there is no endeavor i have ever pursued that was not good for my soul
my soul has no concept of "not good" -- except 'soulessness' - an imaginary fear - but then aren't they all?
