Mel's offensive comment was that "the Jews were responsible for most of the major conflicts in history" or, something to that effect.

I've only heard about it in the Canadian media. The quotes I heard were: "Fucking Jews. They're the cause of all the wars in the world." He then he asked the officer arresting him "Are you a Jew?" Apparently he also said to a female officer "Hey sugar tits, what are you staring at?"

A good reporter sholld set up a lunch with Mel and Tom Cruz in a place with a hidden microphone - Now that's entertainment!

From what I just read yeah he made a big mistake in his drunkiness, but sounds like he's going to get some much needed help. My thoughts are with him.

the thing that bugs me about this is that if he did say these things he is a jerk when he is drunk, if he truly believes these things he is a jackass sober but why on earth is there so much press about it and why is he being condemned with out a trial? We have sports figures who rape young girls while high on drugs and the press is all about what a slut the victim is but heaven forbid you get drunk and make a comment about a religious group. (this is in NO WAY condoning the DUI , I have VERY strong feelings about that)
