Default Are there any other African-american Wiccans here?

I don't mean to sound like a true knucklehead here, but, so far, here in Cleveland, me and my cousin are learning the craft, and are there any others on here??? Most, not all, African-americans here the word,"Witch", automatically think you are a voodoo witchdoctor, which is really sad. Just asking to see what the opinions are?[oops][confused]

I don't think this counts, but I figured why not!

I am about 1/16 African-American. My great great grandmother was black.

I have some features but nothing skin-wise. I have super dark brown eyes (almost black really), moles, and *cough* a larger than normal hip area...heh.

So, I'm sure that isn't what you wanted to hear...but I figured I would try [cool]

Storm I know what you mean, we are not African American, but living here in Texas on the La. Side thats exactly what people think. My husbsand Vic was raised in La. and although he's white they still associate him with Voodoo instead of Pagan. He grew up with the culture and learned a bit, but he choose paganism. When he went back for his mommas funeral recently he was approached by an Auntie about his pentagram ring and she got a big smile and hugged him for following his heart and not what he thought he probably should.

I feel the same as you Storm I would like to see more diversity in the Craft. There is much the African-Americans can bring to the Craft, beyond that we have already seen other cultures mixed with Wicca as with the Cornell Tradition. It seems that when people think of Wicca they automatically assume Celtic or Irish and this is true as far as statistics but it does not mean that Wicca would not be open to incorporate aspects of other cultures or religions. The local Druid Grove in Houston, TX as a few African-American and Hispanic members, but beyond that I have seen that most Pagan orders, groves, or covens, are predominately Caucasian.

I do hope you find others from the same race/cultural background. It is hard sometimes to feel like the only red grape in a bushel of greens.
