I personally have been taught that being Wiccan is as complex or simple as you wish it to be. I haven't done much in the lines of casting spells or chants lately but I have been heavy into meditation and self realizations. That and I had it instilled into me when I converted to Wicca that there is an order to it, family and work come before attending coven functions. So, in essence, you practice your faith the way you wish to, there is no right or wrong way; just as long as you get what you need out of it. Above all else, I adhere to the final phrase of the Wiccan Rede in my life: "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Wicca is a religion that entails a duotheistic but non-dualistic worldview, honoring the changing energies of the Universe as made manifest by the turning of the Wheel: the changing seasons, the cycles of Sun and Moon, and the cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth. It embraces the practice of magick and witchcraft as it holds that just as all the physical is a direct manifestation of the Gods, so, too, are we and so we are able to create change in our world. In recognition of this non-dualism, we create change through various means, one of which being energetic: this is magick. And using magick is a fundamental part of Wiccan ritual; the very act of casting a Circle is a magickal act. And though Wicca is a magick embracing religion, it is certainly about more than practicing witchcraft;and magick and witchcraft are much more than casting spells.
But, yes, to be a "true" Wiccan you do have to practice Wicca. How else could you be a member of a religion unless you practiced that religion? For example, would you be a "true" Hindu unless you practiced the religion? experiencing the Sacred Thread ceremony and holding morning puja? Would you be a a "true" Christian if you didn't follow the tenets of Christianity? unless you experienced baptism and believed in a resurrected saviour? So it is the same with any religion. You are what you do.
So, to sum it up: all Wiccans are witches. The practice of magick is fundamental to Wicca. Magick/witchcraft are more than casting spells.
Namaste,
Althaea

i am a wiccan and i very rarely cast spells. only on the occasion that my freinds are going through a hard time and ask me to do a little something, simply because it cant hurt to try, not because they believe in it a good deal. so my answer is, you dont have to practice magick to be wiccan.

I read the forum rules, and I guess that some of my poetry is objectionable....I guess I just wonder what the "community standards" are, and what they allow. For instance some of my poetry is...
