Yarrow tincture sprayed with a fine mister on your skin will deter them.

Skin-so-soft makes a great oil that prevents them from biting as they get flooded with oil when they land.

I find a diet of limes and quinine with your favorite gin or vodka is also great at repelling mosquitos.

My fav is 1 part vodka, 1 part gin 1 quarter lime, 2parts tonic water over ice- Mosquito Martini!

    hahahaha,

Sorry, for bringing up an older post but being new, I hope you'll forgive me. But I thought this was an interesting one. And I wanted to know what quinine is? I have a mosquito problem too and it itches like hell!!! I would love to try some of these suggestions but I don't know what quinine is? Please help!

Quinine is a drug used for fever. it is especially good in the treatment of malaria. You can buy tonic water with a small amount of quinine in it in grocery stores and liquor stores.

Thanks! Will have to pick some up, although with the cooler weather, maybe not but always good to stock up for next season.[cool]

    Really good mosquito repellant:

    1 ounce dried calendula flowers
    1 ounce dried lavender flowers
    1 fifth cheapest vodka available

Gently heat vodka in non-aluminum saucepot to blood-heat (about 100-110 degrees). Pour over dried flowers in a large glass jar (i use a 2-quart mason jar)or crock with lid; cover and let steep for about a month, then strain into a couple smaller bottles, discarding flowers. I make this up in March or April, so i'm good to go when the little suckers show up for their spring fling.
Be very careful heating alcohol to prevent flashing, and one needn't add that this is NOT for internal use.

    Happy days,
    Mart[wink][
