Default Wow! Impressed by my daughters teacher...

My eleven-year old daughter is very much pagan, and so I have explained to her about being careful who we tell what our beliefs are because there are some that don't understand.

Anyway, apparently she has told two different teachers about our belief. She came home yesterday from school with a folded section of a 'newspaper' style magazine. She says "you'll never guess what my teacher gave me."

When she opens the paper (it was just 3 pages torn from the paper) the headline says "The Wiccan Way" and is about Pagan Pride Day in Augusta, GA.

LOL! I honestly was speechless! First, I had no idea that anyone at the school knew we were pagan. 2nd, this teacher is actually one from last year and remembered and cared enough that when she say a pagan article in a magazine she thought to bring it to her student.

We live in "Baptist country" and stuff like that happeneing is rare!

The magazine is "Metro Spirit" and if you search the site for The Wiccan Way you can find the article. Its an alternative magazine with a variety of topics but does focus a lot on Paganism.

    Yeah for cultural/religious tolerance!

My son is too embarrassed by it to tell his, and my daughter is on the border and hasnt desided it yet but she is not embarrassed at all she is more than happy to tell people and so far no one has been mean or rediculded her. Sometimes people will suprise you. Blessings to the teacher for caring and understanding.

My parents were always in fear that someone was going to discover we were Pagan and we would be Exiled or Shunned. (this came from generations being raised in Intolerance)
There were times when friends would drop over when my mom and grandmother were doing spellwork and ask what was going on.... I would always answer "Making Soup!" or "Soap!" or "TEA!"
I am more or less Open about my beliefs now; Your way is Much better.

hi all, new here so a big hello from london! my daughter is also 11 and has had a huge chat with her RE teacher at her new senior school. it came about because she was able to answer questions that the other children couldnt and she asked why she knew so much. the topic was the origin of relgions. since then she has been asked to take in various 'pagan' items to show and talk about. at a recent parents evening the teacher asked me to come in and talk about the wheel of the year. i will be going in nearer beltane so wish me luck! x

I had a really great English teacher who not only accepted my faith but encouraged me to write about it. Indeed, I ended up writing a number of papers on Wicca and Paganism. Unfortunately, not everyone is accepting, but I also don't see any need to hide my religion. If people ask me about it, I answer honestly. So far, I've gotten a lot of positive reactions, and all the negativity was from people who never liked me to begin with. Yay for religious tolerance!

My daughter has been involved since she was 3 or 4 months old and when she started school she told her teachers and they have all asked us if it was alright to celebrate Christmas and let her participate in the parties because they did not know if there was something different we do or not. I think it just depends on the openness of the mind of the person the child tells about their beliefs. It is good that her teacher understands.
