    Default Child-friendly Athame

Please stop replying to this post!

Due to some snippy and bitchy answers over wanting a child-friendly athame I have deleted what I can and edited what I can.

Where are the mods? Pleast stop 2 of your members from posting rudely, unless that's an accepted practice at this group. Delete this post and I'd suggest banning the members but that's up to you.

As far as I am concerned, I am leaving this group.

maybe try carving one? using a good size piece of wood, and carving tools with your help of course, would be a great way to personalize one.

I made my first Athame, and it served me well for many years. When i eventually found a new one that called to me, i gave my old one to a student. she still uses it.

it's very easy to carve symbols and signs into a wooden one as well.
much easier than metal at least.

also, wood is good for paint and such.

    Brightest Blessings!

Oh, my goodness... she is 11 for goddess sake. YOUTH is not a Defect. Teach her how to handle the tool and be Done with it ! I have had Mine since I was Eight. My Grandmother showed me the Proper Use and told me it was a Sacred Object. .............. what Exactly do you think might happen ?? Are you trying to build TRUST, or show her that she Cant Be Trusted ???

Great advice! Actually, we found a knife, like a butter knife but with a different shaped blade, at a thrift store. Its not sharp since its a butter knife. Its technically not double-bladed though either, but anyway, it has a wooden handle that I am going to paint one side black and the other side white. Then on the black side put a white dot in the widest part of the handle and a black dot on the white side (yin-yang). The yin-yang is her fave symbol so I figured her athame should reflect that.

Actually a wooden one is not a bad idea. My daughter asked me to help her build an altar, and wants everything!! I was a little itchy about letting her have live steel in her room. I think that would work just fine.

I am glad you found a good choice for your daughter. I was going to suggest a wooden one, but I see that that suggestion has already been given. My children use a wooden knife for cutting bananas and I have always liked the organic feel to it.

Made you Feel Bad ?? Bless your lil heart; that was Not my intent. Please Forgive me if I have Ruffled your FLUFFY BUNNY FUR. I am not a negative person, but I am quite serious when it comes to "the Practice of the Craft". I was Raised Pagan, I raised both my sons (single parent) as Pagan; I speak from experience. I am sure your choice of Craft Tools was proper for your Use, and I hope you and your daughter have fun when you PLAY Witch. <3

But it doesn't matter. You're negativity is not going to bother me and your post was reported. The advice you gave was good, but there was a much better way to project it than you did. Think before you speak next time.

snippy? i think that advice was perfect. at what point do you allow her to light a fire? she is 11....she should be doing that by now.
we want to keep them forever but we cannot. they grow and the best we can do is guide. perhaps she isnt mature enough to know
    the coven life yet.
