Hi all, my son is 14 months and we are planning on homeschooling through the ECOT (education classroom of tomorrow) system. I had a horrible time in school and then was finally sent to a private school, which was much better for me. I do know that ECOT has school outings etc for the students. I havn't began developing a curriculum but I am excited about homeschooling.

Wow. Only 14 months and you're getting started now. You're really ambitious.

But, ECOT isn't homeschooling: it's a charter school, run by public schools but in your home. Homeschool is a private school, based in your home, where you are the teacher for your child and choose exactly what to teach them. You design the curriculum yourself, even if you purchase a curriculum you still modify it to your child's needs.

Here's a few links for you about homeschooling. The last one specifically addresses the differences between homeschool and home school (the latter is what you are talking of doing.)

Homeschool: HSLDA-Home School Legal Defense Association
    Homeschool Contests & Scholarships - Homeschool.com - The #1 Homeschooling Community
    WPA: Understanding Homeschooling

I'm not trying to come down on you, it's just that I do homeschool. I pick the curriculum, without any outside influence, forming it to the needs of my child and myself. Public schools already have it out for homeschoolers, thinking we're doing a crap job, and they honestly want us stopped. The last link covers that more so. But, that is why I'm pointing out the difference, because there is one, and homeschoolers have to fight for their right to teach their own children.

    Namaste,

I guess that I realized that the ECOT was not completely teaching by me. Let me rephrase what I want to do. I want to do the ECOT system and add extra/my own things developed for my child by me and my husband. I want him to know and be up to date on what the actual school system is teaching but then I plan to extend and broaden the levels of the subjects as well as add fun subjects.
