my mother had me when she was 38 after haveing 3 boys (she *wished* so hard for a girl) which was quite a thing back in her day. she was the oldest woman in the maternity ward. she died when i turned 38. i was 20 when i had my daughter which, i guess, in great neck long island, is not very common. i was the youngest woman in the maternity ward at the same hospital.
my daughter has been "sunshine on a cloudy day" ever since she was conceived.
i think that the thing that really matters is how you feel *inside* when it comes to keeping up and connecting with your kids. i'm not really sure age plays a huge role.
i'm very glad that technology has made childbirth much less dangerous. people say that it's very natural and that we've been doing it for *a very long time* =o). what these same people fail to mention is how many women died during childbirth in years past. it's amazing how much safer it is to have children even as older women.
