Default First Call to Poison Control

As the title says we had to make our first call to posion control the other night.

I was watching TV and my son was playing, quite quitely just in the corner of my eye with his back to me. This should have been a tip off, but I was soooo glad he was playing quietly it did not register. After a while he came over to me and his face/hands' and mouth were covered in fish food flakes! I grabbed him up and went over to where he was playing. The 2 year old genius that he is managed to find the neglectfully placed container and open it. It was all over the floor.

My wife and I cleaned him up and checked the container. It had no warning but alot of ingredients we had no clue what they were, so we made the call.

They told us it was nothing to worry about, that he would be fine with the exception of a belly ache.

He had no belly ache and is fine. It is a funny story but it still concenrs me and my wife slightly. Though I am 99% he will be fine, I am sure they do not test the affects of fish food ingredient on humans so do they really know?

southern, I'm glad to hear your son is okay. As a mother of two grown children and a grandmother of two, I can tell you that when they're really quiet like that (and have their back to you) is when you need to check on what they're doing!

I don't know exactly when this happened, but you said "the other night." Since your son has been fine, I'm sure there's absolutely nothing for you guys to worry about now from him eating the fish food flakes. Whatever the ingredients are, they've already worked their way through his digestive system by now.

I only had one real scare when mine were little. My daughter, who was about 18mths at the time, climbed onto the toilet seat & got hold of a bottle of paediatric cough medicine.I found her with the stuff running out of her mouth & down her chest.I had no idea how much she'd had.As it was sticky the lid hadn't screwed down properly. We went to A&E & they gave her an emetic to be safe but as she wasn't drowsy & had no other symptoms we all drew the conclusion that she hadn't actually drunk much. She was very sick due to the emetic but otherwise we had a lucky escape. The hospital rang the central poisons advice centre & as with alot of medication overdoses the final outcome in extreme cases ended with coma then death. We were so lucky,I think the problem was that the manufacturers made it taste too good & she just fancied another taste of it.
I always knew if the kids were too quiet that they'd been up to something they shouldn't.
    The daughter's 17 now & my son's 21 but I still know when they've done something they shouldn't,they still go quiet!![lol]

southernfriedwiccan don't worry. If food is OK for fish it OK for human- actually fishes are more sensitive than humans- so their food couldn't be poisones. I was the toxicologiest more than 10 years and know that the concentration of poison which is not affected humans could affect fishes in sand rivers.
