Re: has anyone with a baby/toddler experienced thi
Oh yes, As a young mom I had several mishaps with not only the walls painted with poo but the kid, too! Â*I think the funniest story was when one of my kids were in a nice warm bath and I decided to pluck my eyebrows. I only looked away for a minute and when I turned back there was a surprise floating in the tub!

It's normal for kids to do that when they're young. Â*Although it is REALLY GROSS now, believe me someday you will have a good laugh over this!
Both of my sons were, ahem, crappy artists when they were babies!

My suggestion that Sebastianmomma look into testing for her son also stems from previous posts she's made where she's discussed, if my memory is correct, concerns of others including pediatricians and other health care professionals who have commented that her son may have some type of psychoneurological developmental disorder. I also don't believe in being quick to slap a diagnosis on a child. But, I believe that today, most testing is very thorough, professional, and accurate with the diagnosis made as a result of a series of tests done over several occasions.Sebastianmomma wrote:
my son also has alot of developmental delays especially in fine motor, particularly oral motor. no one knows why yet, and suggest possible autism or sensory problems.
Certainly, the parent should use their best judgment in deciding where and if to have their child undergo any form of testing. But, as I said earlier, Sebastianmomma has raised these concerns before. So, I feel, "when in doubt, check it out."

As a mom myself I would agree that you should definately have your son evaluated for any possible problem. It will put your mind at ease. Good Luck.

Re: has anyone with a baby/toddler experienced thi
I have the worst HMO! Thank goodness next month my husband will gets decent healthcare coverage. Im switching!
As for testing, my pediatrician sent me to a speech-language pathologist TWICE! Both times she refused to test him in anything. she said this was out of her area of expertiese. Then i got sent to a geneticist who measured him all over with a tape measurer like crazy, and said she "ruled out most every form of genetic problems". then we had his chromosomes checked and blood tests for the various kinds of lead poisoning/pollution/etc that could cause delays - all normal.
he was supposedly checked out by an autism specialist. BUT, although we had to pay 75 dollars out of pocket, she came up inconclusive. and i checked out this specialist and it turns out she didnt finish school so legally she cannot diagnose autism. and we spend hundreds of dollars on a therapist who never helped him either. all she ever did was make me make food logs of everything he ate and tried desperately for him to gain weight. funny thing is after we stopped seeing her and measuring how much he ate, he put on 2 pounds!
the government pays for these free centers called regional centers, that test delayed children. they tested sebastian and found him delayed in all areas. yet only authorized speech therapy (which is free!!).
Ive spent a good part of the past few months bugging them, and it looks like they will look him over again and see if he can get therapy for his oral motor delay (he is almost 3 yrs and eating at like a 9 month level, pockets food, and sometimes chokes, gags, and food and liquid spill back out)
also there is no one at my HMO who will deal with his eating problems. the closest they have is a nutritionist who wont help me- she just says im a bad mother and spoiling him and hes just doing this all for attention. lol she told me i should time his meals and make him eat them in less than 10 minutes! imagine that lady's poor kids!

Sebastianmomma, with all the complaints and bad experiences you've had with your HMO and the specialists they've chosen for you, it sounds like a good thing that you'll have access to different health care next month. Hopefully then, you and your son will have a fresh start with experts who will take the time to thoroughly evaluate all the areas of concern you and they have for your son. And, if their particular specialists can't help you, maybe they'll be able to give your proper referrals to those who can.

Has he been tested for food alergies? Possibly he can not digest proteins that come from meat. You said he gags on some of his food, this could be a reaction to foods that he might be allergic to. I have seen shows on discovery channel where little know allergies are the cause of delays in a child development. Shame on that doctor who had the nerve to call you a bad mother.

I have already posted on the fact that my children have the ability to put Dennis the Mennis to shame, so, I wont go into the poopy time stories... lol.. but... I will say, with all 4 of my sons they were all so different. Some more advanced and some slower. As they have grown older, the slower ones are right on target. It would be ok if they were not, but, some just take longer, I hope that gives you a little peace of mind. I hope I dont offend by saying this, but I am gonna.. It saddens me to see so many doctors want to label little ones when things are not "as they should be". I know there are many cases out there when things truly are medically wrong, but it just seems now a days, they want to label everything and give meds and test for this and that, I just think little ones should have a chance to catch up if they need it or open doors if they are ahead. My youngest did not even talk much or walk much until 12 months, he is perfectly normal, I freaked at first, because of doctors, but... my first born walked at 8 mos ... they were just different. I hope yours are just fine!
lots-a-love,
OE
