    Default Pampering during Moontimes

Hey ladies...I was just curious about what you all love to do when it's your moontime. I know that sometimes we all have things we must do because life doesn't stop, but what things do you like to do to take care of yourself during this time?

Do you take baths, drink tea, or read? Do you hibernate or like to be around people? Do you find exercise to be helpful or harmful?

I also am interested to hear what you think are good things to do in regards to wtichcraft activities during this time. I remember reading somewhere that this time is good for contemplation and reflection. I am a journaler, so I always journal.

So I'll start. Some of these things I love all the time, but especially during my moontime.

    Hot tea (black AND herbal)
Reading favorite magazines (Yoga Journal, Natural Health, other fitness mags, Backpacker)
Yoga (sometimes, but I always find I have an intense urge to do yoga around this time)
Being outside, especially if it's cool out
Cooking and Baking (i get very domesticated...)
Reading by favorite books all cuddled up
Watching favorite TV shows or movies

Well if you like to journal you could record your moontime onset with relationship to the moon. It was said that witches always had their menses on a full moon in old wives tales.
This may sound gross but the use of DNA, blood, spit, sweat and semen was used to magically lubricate wooden sacred tools to intensify their magic. Menstrual blood was considered especially potent in writing runes on items as well.

Spider, a Taino shaman who has a website, is a friend of mine who has a book about blood mysteries that you might find interesting. It will give you songs and lots of information about what you can do during moontime. If you can't find the link and you want it I could send it to you.

    namaste,

During my moontime I love to watch tv, movies, and nap. I'm always sooooo tired when it comes. I stretch alot, trying to get all the kinks out. Sit and read whatever is nearby. Get on the net, and find whatever comes to mind. When I don't want to do something like cleaning, moving, or whatever I am very lucky to have housemates who pick up the slack... I do it for them when their time comes too....

When it's cold out, I love to lay in the snow... it takes the pain away, if/when I am in pain. Journaling is something I like to do as well. It helps, and it makes me laugh when I look back at some of the crazy stuff that I wrote in the past. (Especially around "that time of the month.")

I must have herbal tea, no exceptions. A blend of Raspberry and Nettle leaves (as my bleeds are quite heavy for now, I've just started bleeding again after baby #3...) and maybe some Shepherd's Purse if they're exceptionally heavy and Chamomile and maybe Catnip if I'm too stressed to bleed properly (ie cramps.) Sometimes I have to clean my house, too, as I did this last time. Often I need to dance. My uterus is dancing so I dance with her.

I am a big advocate of nice herbal teas. Catnip is a favorite. Oh yeah, we must not ever forget chocolate. A sappy movie or two. My two daughters and I have our cycles on the full moon or within a day or two. They don't live full time with us but still they are right there with me. Also one daughter is christain and the other is undeclared. I don't think its a witch thing more like a female thing. So yeah the three males in our house all of a sudden have to go motorcycle riding once a month around the full moon. lol

Hi heres a few things I do. My moontime is not a active time for me, need rest if I can as I have quite painful periods at the onset of my period and then headaches and feeling very tired, its always a relief when my period finishes because suddenly I have more energy and I dont feel sad and depressed

Heres a few things I like to do:

Watching TV under a blanket and chocolate
    Hot water bottle
    Reading
I prefer alone time and quiet at the start
    Meditation
divination - especially in the bath

I get awful cramps (my mom does too, so I think that's hereditary), so I drink tea and honey. Chai tea is a favorite of mine, but I also like chamomile. If we have it, I drink hot chocolate, and when we don't, I consume copious amounts of the regular stuff. Generally, I want to curl up and sleep so I don't really get much done, but I do do divination sometimes. I've found that peppermint helps a bit with my cramps, as does hot water, so I take a long shower, especially my second day, when the cramps are worse.

Emm- the herbs I mentioned in my above post from way-back-when may help you with the cramps. Raspberry Leaves and Stinging Nettle Leaves are both uterine tonics: they help your uterus to work more efficiently and can thus shorten your bleed, too (eg I can go from a normal 5 days to 3.) Relaxant herbs are good for easing the pain because they encourage you to relax and "go with the flow." Cramps are caused by tension in the body, if there is no tension, there are no cramps. Chamomile and Catnip are good for that: they're gentle and easy to come by, too.

That is basically my Happy Moontime Blend:
    4 parts Raspberry leaf
    3 parts Stinging Nettle leaf
    1 part Chamomile
    1 part Catnip

Let me know if you do try any of these herbs and how they work for you.

    Namaste,
    Althaea

Oooh, I'll have to try that! I love raspberry and chamomile. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
