Hi I am new to cauldron living. I was told that I have Polycystic ovarian syndrom. I have looked it up on the inernet and have a doctors appointment but, I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem?
My wife was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago and we have had a difficult time with it.
We've been trying to conceive for about 6 years now with no luck.
I don't want to discourage you, but just want to make sure your OB knows his/her stuff. We got stuck with a couple of Dr's that really didn't know much about it, but pretended they did and it set us back by a few years.
During that time, my wife was on a cocktail of steroids and hormones. It made her miserable and after we finally found a doc that was in the know about PCOS, my wife was tired of taking pills and shots..... so we have kind of given up on the whole thing.
Both of us feel that the universe listens and God and Goddess will bring us children if we are meant to have them.
I hope I haven't upset you, just know that there are varying degrees of PCOS.
Our issues are unique due to ovarian cysts my wife had in her teens, plus the younger you are when you find out, the better.
I know my wife visited some PCOS related womens health forums as well as bought some books on the subject. I would ask her but it's a touchy subject around the house. I say google it, visit forums, buy books, read and learn all you can before you talk to your OB. Research a fertility specialist that specializes in this area and don't just settle for your OB's golf buddy like we did.
Best of luck and many bright blessings.
Hey there...My sister is dealing with this too and there is a site that explains things ...infor@insulitelabs.com it is also Insulin Resistance...your body putting out too much insulin then when you eat carbs that create more insulin your body is overwhelmed... Your eating habits will need to change to help the insulin overload and your body can then have a chance to balance out! It is good to have a doctor that is familiar with this situation so that the right supplements are given too!it is a process indeed...but it can be helped! www.insulitesystem.com if you need more info IM me ...fate
Thank you all. I went to my Dr. and we have decided to use the birth controll pill as treatment for now. this works well since we have no plans on having kids. I have no history of blood clots and go to a heart Doc because of family history. Never hurts to keep an eye on things.
Right now it is more important to get my cycle on track in oder to avoid different kinds of Cancer. I also keep an eye on my blood suger being that both my Mom and Dad are. Diabetic
Thank you again for all your help and concern.

birth control will help with making your cycles regular..but actually i was on bc for years and my cycle start day would switch b y as many as 3 days...
frm my readings weight loss will help too..well i've lost 15 lbs...stil no sign of a normal cycle.
Doc gave me provera to start my periods but have opted to NOT take any meds no BC no provera..jsut let my body do its thing. I've gone as long as 54 days w/o a period if i get to 60 i'll head to the doc.
I've pretty much just decided to let my body do things natural. All the meds I took before realy made me feel bad about myselfnot a good state at all. Though I want us to have a baby, i'm trying not to focus on it, if the goddess has a baby in my future she will show me to it.
I have PCOS. It took me two entire years to conceive my daughter, but I did it. The most helpful thing for me was going on a strict vegetarian diet. I also followed recipes from a book called "Sugar Busters Diet", since a lot of PCOS is related to insulin and its absorbtion. Â*There are very few books out there that talk about this syndrome. In all my research losing weight or keeping it under control is the key. PCOS makes that next to impossible. Thats why the vegan diet helped me. When I reached an age where I knew I would not be having anymore children, I went on the med called Spironolactone (generic for Aldactone). The Spiro blocks the absorbtion of, but does not supress, the production of extra testosterone. (As an aside, if you are trying to conceive, spiro or aldactone are not for you. They block testosterone absorbtion, therefore creating a horrible environment for a male fetus to develop! Do not take if you are trying to conceive!) The extra testosterone is responsible for the insulin resistance, hair growth where you least expect or want it, infertility, the weight gain, hair loss, Â*and all the other nasties that come with PCOS. My suggestion is to learn as much as you can about this syndrome and be your own advocate. Most importantly find a good fertility specialist or an endocrinologist who can help you deal with this syndrome. Personally I think it should be classified as a disease. I fight it every day of my life. It not a hopeless disease, but it is one that will require a lot from you to keep it under control. The first doctor I suggested PCOS to told me I gained 45lbs in a month because I was "lazy"! Yeah, right...as if! It took me four doctors before I found a fertility specialist that agreed with me on a diagnosis of PCOS. There is a website called Soulcysters that may offer some support and help.
I wish you the best of luck. Please let me know how you are doing.

I'm new around here... but I too have PCOS... By the time I got on the stuff to get my cycle straightened out I had gone 6 months without a cycle. That starter cycle hurt like nothing I've ever felt before. My doctor informed me that I only ovulate once or twice a year due to PCOS and it will be very hard for me to become pregnant. The pain of that first cycle after not having one for six months definately taught me to pay close attention to my birth control and not to skip any. I am also on Lexapro because of the way my backwards hormones affect my emotional state. As long as I take the Birthcontrol and the Lexapro every day I have things under control for the most part. I was wondering if anyone might have some advice on other things that can be done to help with the emotional issues when the Lexapro doesn't quite cut it.
Hi - I too suffered from PCOS for about 15 yrs. I went from one spcialist to another....was prescribed Provera and bc; and altho i desperately wanted a family, i was not able to conceive. I would go several months between periods. The longest I went was 2 yrs. Then when my periods did finally start it was constant flooding and terrible pain. I finally had to give up on ever having a family and had a total hysterectomy .....that was a very difficult decision. But, the constant roller coaster ride of emotions and pain ended. The best advice I can give would be to take care of the problem; do not assume that it will correct itself. It is caused by a hormone inbalance...usually the eggs do not completely form even when they are ovulated. So, keep looking a doctor that understands and will help; and not just keep prescribing bc and provera.....I wish you the best and send healing energy your way. Blessings
