    Default Gay Pride

Gay Pride in the 21st Century

Today is New York's Gay Pride event. All over the country they have a celebration on different weekends in June to celebrate the reunion of the movement for gay equality which started a mere 40 years ago. A lot of emotions go through your head when an event touches your life like this.

Gay pride is important to celebrate because prejudice about sexual orientation is alive and well in these United States, even in the New York City metropolitan area. I'm sure I'm not the only one to suffer a job loss during lean times just because of my sexual preference. That's why I lost my job primarily, my boss made prejudicial remarks about me personally in front of other managers and I called him out to Human Resources. Human Resources stalled the meeting for a month and then when we had the meeting I had to basically out myself to say that his remarks were a form a sexual harassment. They did nothing to him, they layed me off 3 months later. It's not the first time this has happened to me. Since I was obviously gay all my life I have had to deal with negativity from all walks of people from teachers to parents and peer. I have been beaten up repeatedly, and even attacked verbally by a huge crowd of people in New York city, so I can only imagine how hard it must be for homosexuals to live in small, more conservative communities across America. But who do you blame the Church or the State? Many states fight hard to PREVENT two people who are in love to get married on the basis that it goes against God's laws as given in the Bible. I don't see how God who created homosexuals would find fault in them wanting to be a loving couple. The State is stacked against you as well, most lawyers don't want to take on a sexual discrimination suit. I'm hoping that the 21st century ushers in a true Age of Aquarius, one that prioritizes higher ideals so that homosexuals can finally be accepted and not beat up, raped and sometimes murdered by other ignorant humans.

Shout out to all my gay friends in cyberspace.

    peace,
    JB

Yep, it's that time of year again. [bounce]

While I haven't attended a Gay Pride Parade in Texas yet, my favorite events to attend have always been the Long Beach, CA and San Diego, CA Pride Parades and events. Long Beach held theirs in May, and San Diego's is coming up in July. Although many Pride events are held in June, there's many communities that plan their Pride parades and events to occur throughout the year.

Here's a link to a calendar of International Gay Pride Parades and Events for anyone who's interested: http://www.gaycityusa.com/pride.htm

Gay or straight, if you've never attended a Gay Pride event, I highly recommend it. There's usually excellent music and entertainment, and the atmosphere is very warm and congenial. In general, they're just a lot of fun to attend.
