    Default Happy Gay Pride!

Okay, okay, this comes as late as humanly possible, but I just wanted to wish everyone a merry Gay Pride Month! (It was June, for those of you not in the know). Did anyone go to a local parade, or do anything else to celebrate?

Happy belated Pride! I didn't end up going to any of Toronto's Pride celebrations [frown]

Hey, I've heard that Toronto and most other parts of Canada are pretty liberal. How much truth is there in that?

I'd say that it's fairly correct. From what I gather, Ontario and Quebec are the most socially liberal provinces. Large cities tend to be as well. As a country on a whole we have Gay marriage (which is now being challenged, unfortunately), we recently had some positive amendments to the Bawdy House laws, the laws reflect a woman’s right to choose, and we seem to (on the most part), cherish human rights and celebrate diversity. As well, here in Ontario, midwifery is covered by universal health care, and Wicca is recognized as a religion.

In the last few years there has been an alarming rise in support for right-wing conservatives and moral crusaders. Right now on a federal level, that is who has a minority control of government.

On a personal level, I would like to see more social liberties given.
