Hey everyone....I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to clean the burner trays from an electric stove? They catch the food or stuff that falls beneath the burner....well, they get stained easily and I can't get them clean. I know there is an awesome way and I forgot! I tried vinegar and water, comet and even regular dish soap and nothing. I hate stains! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm going through the same thing right now, my burner trays are nasty, and won't come clean. I soaked them in bleach a couple of nights ago. That didn't really help that much. Some of the stuff that has been baked on for a while came off, but not all of it. Tonight, I'm going to soak them with dishsoap then scrub at them with the steel wool some more. I've done this before, and it got all the grease and grime off, but not the burnt on stuff. I've tried hydrogen peroxide and vinegsar on them, but that didn't work so well either. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hopefully someone else can help with this.

I know this isn't exactly the advice you were looking for, but if all your attempts to clean the burner trays don't work to your satisfaction, they do sell replacements. And, they're pretty inexpensive, too (something like $5-$8 if my memory is correct). A few years ago, I bought replacement burner trays at Walmart for the electric range we had at the time. They come in a couple of different standard sizes, so just be sure to measure the diameter (width across) of the burner trays beforehand to make sure you get the right size.
I just thought of a suggestion for trying to clean the burner trays....have you tried oven cleaner? Maybe that will be strong enough to remove the stains?
Thanks for the replies. I know I wouldn't have this issue if I cleaned them more often. Oops. We've only been in this apartment since the middle of March and they are already stained. Ugh. I would buy new ones (I did when we left the old apartment and I couldn't get those clean either). The ones I need are about $10-$12 since the burners are not all the same size. But I don't want to have to buy them twice (now and when we eventually move).....I just like them nice and clean, ya know? I may have to break down and buy em. Errrr....this is frustrating. Anyway, thanks you two!
a little trick I did when I was in military housing... buy new ones, like Thelma said... they are cheap, cover them in tin foil, ~take off when you have company, they as they are shiney!~ and cover back up until when you move or have inspections! LOL... keeps you from scrubbing and soaking!
LOL~Thanks Thelma... but you know what my fav. trick ...ooops I mean tip is? company is coming... you need a quick refresh... spray pledge on the carpet (a light dusting) vac. the carpet, the pledge will hold the lines and marks a little longer and then shine only at eye level, they think you spent a long time cleaning... lol
The easiest was to clean them is with a paste of bicarb soda and water... it is magic on burnt on stuff. Even salvaged my saucepan when I let it boil dry. just make sure to rinse well after.[oops][oops][oops]
Use a heavy degreaser and a little powdered cleanser with a scouring pad. If they are so heavily stained that everything else doesnt work try spraying them with oven cleaner and let them set a few hours.
So, bicarbonate of soda and water will work? I have a gas stove and the burner trays are really bad! I want to clean them but I am not sure of just what to use. Thanks for the idea. When I get them clean, I will get some of those aluminum tin trays to put down to catch any spills.
