    Thanks for the info. After I read this post I noticed at Price Chopper a green can for recycling the grocery bags. Thanks again.

    I usually just bring mine to the bottle depot at the same time I am returning all my empty bottles and cans. They have big bags there into which people can throw them. I had always assumed they recycled the old bags the same way they recycle other plastic containers.

    Regards.

    Another note- I was very happy to see Giant Eagle (in Pennsylvania) selling reusable canvas grocery bags so people have the option to not use plastic. I already bought 2!

    I cut my plastic bags into strips and crochet with them. It makes a super-strong, reuseable bag that looks kinda neat, and it's a great way to keep them outta the landfills.

    Saeoko...this is a great idea!!!!!! I am a knitter and I never thought of that. I will have to try it.
    Actually, I am really excited about this. I will start as soon as I get home. Thank you for the idea.

    I appreciate the effort in recycling. Â*However, I firmly believe in NOT creating the problem in the first place. Â*I bought reusable shopping bags many, many, many years ago. Â*And they are very cheap. Â*They also come in "heavy duty" varieties for things such as bottles. Â*I strongly recommend people quit the plastic shopping bag habit. Â*Instead, get into the habit of taking your own reusable bags to the (super)market. Â*There are even cute little zip-up varieties that fit snuggly in your handbag (for those mad dashes when you only want to pick up one or two items). Â*After I've put away my shopping, I always leave my shopping bags by the front door — as a reminder to take them with me next time I'm heading to the shops. Â*

    Today I noticed that Kroger is selling the reusable bags now, they even have some that are insulated for frozen items. They are pretty cheap and hold a lot.

    No problem! I've always wanted to knit but all I've been able to do is "granny squares" ^_^;
    I actually heard about crocheting bags because the news in my area did a story about a woman who did it, and I thought it sounded great! You just cut the strips so that you have a bunch of plastic bag rings (so don't cut it lengthwise, but crosswise! And don't cut them so that they aren't rings, or they won't be as strong!) and attach the strips together as you go.
    Gah! I'm rambling again! Anyway, I hope you have fun!

    I usually use the left over plastic bags for small garbage cans like in the bathroom or office.. It helps with wonders for clean up.
