    Default Carpets!

My father has a dog that is very spiteful and makes it her life goal to pee on the carpet after she has been outside to potty. Now, we've always hit the spots with wash rags and carpet cleaner by hand and then with the home carpet cleaner vac.Well the home carpet cleaner broke so we rented the rug doctor and did all the carpets two times over. Well now I still find that the carpets smell! Mom wants to take the carpet up and put down hard wood floors but we just dont have the money yet. Sooo, the carpets for now.

My big question is, what works best at cleaning them and making them smell better? ( You can only note the smell when face close to them, no matter what I hate it.They smell funny, cant place the smell, its just a funny odd smell...)Also, any tips of breaking the dogs habbit? She does this a few times a week.

Try using a spray bottle filled with WATER to squirt the dog when it starts any Bad Behavior...(Tinkling, chewing, jumping...) It doesnt Hurt the dog, but it startles it and the dog will remember. I got the tip from a friend who is a Dog Trainer... it is also how I trained my cat.

There is a product available here in the UK so probably in the States too that is perfect for any pet smells,if you ask your veterinarian he/she should be able to advise you.One product you can spray directly onto your pet & is called "Petfresh".The same company have a product called "Totalcare" which eliminates odours & stains from carpets.
I know these work as one of our dogs regularly pees on the carpet, usually when she is excited. The same dog often rolls in smelly stuff(I won't go into details)so we use both products.
Rather than being spiteful the dog has probably got some kind of learned behaviour, maybe you should see if you can find out the trigger,eg. is she trying to get attention.
Something along similar lines to what LINN suggested is a product that blows a strong blast of air at the dog(alot less messy than water but with the same effect).Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your help. Im going to look up those cleaners and try and teach her. Sadly, but honestly I dont care for her much, I will put her outside on her runner, feed and water her when i see the bowls empty. but other than that, she wasnt the choice of dog i wanted and i dont bond with her.(She is a pitbull, if anyone is wondering) She is the dog of the other family memebers in this house. I have six cats, my babies. Im more of a cat person.

Theres a product called Natures Miracle that you just pour on the spot and let it be. It works wonders for odors. I'd test a spot first somewhere and make sure its good for your carpet. With mine you couldn't see anything when it dried. Good luck.[grin]
