YUK! MOLD IN MY DISHWASHER!
MM all,
Lately after finishing a load of dishes, I've noticed black mold on the inside of the washer door, side walls and top.
I've cleaned off what I can with an organic germicide but am unable to reach the very back ceiling without a long-handled something.
I believe it's from my turning ON the heat-dry option?? It's a Kenmore and I've had no problems otherwise!
Advice appreciated!

As much as I hate to use chemicals, my only advice would be to run a cycle (no dishes) with bleach in it.

I haven't used a dishwasher in years as well.
It's all good though ... I'd rather wash them and get them put away then have to unload an ENTIRE dishwasher.

Take a sample to your local CSI office, they can tell you the contents.

Re: YUK! MOLD IN MY DISHWASHER!
This is one of the few times that a chemical is the best answer. Chlorine Bleach is one of the best mold killers available. And not too damaging to the environment.
I usually start by running a complete cycle with 2 cups of plain white vinegar to cut out any soap scum that may have built up over time. I usually do this at least once a month or so.
Then to keep the dishwasher sparkling clean I start by wiping down the sides with a paper towel of pure chlorine bleach. That will get the areas that the washing water can't reach. You must use Chlorine/clorox or you will not be killing the mold only removing the obvious signs of it.
Next If your dishwasher has a rinse drain cycle to begin, forward through that so the Chlorine isn't rinsed out immediately. Use the Sanitize Cycle or the Pots & Pans cycle if you have one. You want a good long washing time. Put in at least 2 cups of bleach and run the full cycle.
You might want to follow this up with a full plain water cycle to finish off the cleaning.
Doing this regularly prevents any build up of yuck in the dishwasher.

Wash it out with Vinegar Solution and Soap, then Spray Out the back of the Washer with Pure Vinegar.
It should get the Dirt Out and Kill the Mould, and also get rid of any Smells that may be coming from it.
Vinegar is one of Mother Natures Best Cleanzers going, and it does not Contaminate the Environment.

I agree with Althaea, on top of that try having him relax and meditate before bed. If it helps have him keep a journal near by and record the instances as best as he can. But, definitely go through a...
