Thread: aaack!! can't get rid of gnats!

okay. had a oddly large number of gnats (or whatever they're called)in my house and kitchen. finally found that i had something go foul on me (its happened to us all) in my kitchen. got it cleaned up post-haste and killed/got rid of as many of the little buggers as i could. (i'm all for helpful insects, but gnats drive me INSANE!) but i can't seem to get rid of them all!! i have searched for anything else that could be attracting them and my house is pretty clean!
anyone have any ideas short of burning down my house??? lol

I'm thinking those were fruit flies.

i dunno..itty bitty little flying &%@#ers [tongue] whatever they are, they "bug" me to no end (sorry...unavoidable pun). [ninja]

Well, I'm not wise on what you can use organically to kill them, so I'd hit them with a shot of bug killer. Take care as to not spray your food though. Fruit flies seem like gnats when they are babies so I'm thinking that is what you have. Check everything, if you keep onions and potatoes in a closet or bin or even a drawer/keeper they can get to them as well. Such things as that I would take outside and swish as many away.
I went to a funky grocery store one time as a quick pick up on the way home and I was nearly attacked by a swarm of them boogers as I passed the produce section... needless to say I never went back!

No problem Phoenix. I know it's a creepy crawly feelin when you have a neusance such as those little things.

A few drops of neem oil on a cotton ball left on the counter will repel the little pests.

Neem oil? What is that exactly? I have never heard of it. I love learning new things such as this![smile]

Ooh! Yeah, my mom did that a couple summers ago.

Neem oil is from the neem plant. It has very antibacterial properties so it's good for other stuff, like toothpaste, etc. It can be quite... smelly, so a small dose is wisest. I don't know much more than that about it.
My mom knew to use it to get rid of bugs because she heard about it from a friend.[smile]
