Jaring Herbs???
Its my first year having a garden let alone a herb garden Ive got scoot cunninghams books on magical herbalism & other books. But wanted to know what u guys my have learned over the years how you dry u're herbs & when u know its time & how to jar it right. Like my green beans r ready & Im not sure what to do with them jaring wise. I know thats more garden threads but Im mainly worried about the herbs at this time. My Sage, Rosemary,Catnip r doing sooooo good.

Hang your herbs from the ceiling. If it is a flower that you are drying the blossom goes down, and you tie everything up by the stems. I leave my herbs for 2 weeks. Then I store them in a colored jar, brown paper works good, too. Make sure you clearly label and date your herbs and keep track of them in a notebook or database. Generally, dried herbs will keep for about 2 years, but as long as the smell is still strong and not funky, you are good to go.

That's a good place, but you also want to label your jars with the dates, unless you have a good filing system going on that you refer back to often. You are very welcome for the help.

Vegetable oil will go rancid before olive oil will. The best stuff to use, if I remember right is coconut oil. The costs are up there a bit more than veg oil, but the product will last longer. you want something that will sit on the shelf, but you also need to use your oils within a certain time frame.
Do you have a copy of Cunningham's Incenses, Oils and Brews? It is a fantastic resource, as is Culpepper's Illustrated Guide to Herbs, as he has in the index instructions for creating decoctions, syrups, infusions and the like. Culpepper you can get on interlibrary loan, and the library will be happy to send for it for you.

It's no problem, I just can't remember everything. You can also ask your pharmasist, they can be pretty helpful once you explain that you are interested in making lotions, potions and other notions. I am more than happy to pass on the things that I do remember.
