Behind my house this morning.....
....was the first male RED cardinal I've seen so far this year. His red color was so vibrant and stood out against the bleak and gray background of the woods. Spring can't be far behind, and then....summer! I'm still counting the days.
Forgive the blurriness. I didn't have time to set up a tripod because I has afraid he was going to fly off before I took any photos, and it's hard for me to keep the camera still especially when zooming in.

Thelma...great photos!
The cardinal is my magic bird!
That is what I see every morning lately....I hear him first and then see him in the woods with his bright red glow!
Looks like you have a tree starting a flowery bloom on the left of the photo?

What a beautiful picture. We are just starting to see the odd Robin here and there..plump but not as brilliant as the Cardinal.

How Beautiful!! He is sporting his mating feathers. I'm sure he will find a female dressed up like that.

Re: Behind my house this morning.....
nice!
it's weird here in richmond. a few weeks ago there was a whole flock (i'm not kidding) of robbins on the front yard. then, 2 weekends ago, 4 inches of snow. now, this past weekend, 80 degrees. today, it's about 45 degrees and cold. it doesn't stop the trees from flowering or the daffodils from sprouting up along the roads.

Re: Behind my house this morning.....
That's actually my neighbor's tree with the purple buds in that photo. Although we have woods behind our house, we have neighbors on each side. Here's another photo I took yesterday morning that shows more of my neighbor's trees in bloom over my fencetop. Doesn't seem all that long ago when they finally lost all their leaves, so I was surprised to see the purple blooms pop up a couple of days ago....fate wrote:
