Re: Trees and Their Spirits
Cate, I am envious but happy to know someone who has a Rowan. I have looked into the equivelent tree here in the States. It is the Mountain Ash which is in the same family, has the same type of flower and fruit. I will be looking to purchase one if it will grow in my region.

SPRUCE
Â*The spirit of the spruce tree holds great knowledge about healing, especially in relation to the metaphysical causes of disease. Its spirit is gentle and will open the doorways to the faerie realm in the manner best handed by the individual. It is not unusual for those who attune to the spirit of spruce to find that there follows an increase of animal activity within that environment. The spruce spirit loves human company and activity, and it likes to align itself with families. If there is a spruce tree in the yard, it is often the primary protector and caretaker of the yard. It enjoys having a relationship with humans. The spruce spirit often affects the dream state and when attuned to will occasionally appear in them.

SYCAMORE
Â*The sycamore was a sacred tree to the Egyptians and is still a doorway into these realms where beings and forces associated with Egypt can still be connected with. It can teach how to receive from the universe, be it in form of assistance, compliments, or any other form. It holds the knowledge of the laws of abundance and supply and how to utilize them to your greatest benefit. It also has knowledge of hidden treasures. Attuning to the sycamore will augment all connections to nature.

WALNUT
Â*The walnut tree has an ancient spirit with knowledge of the tides of change. How to recognize and use them is part of what it can teach. It can open the individual to new perspectives on life. The walnut spirit also has knowledge of the mysteries of death and rebirth and how to apply them specifically to your life. It is a doorway into the faerie realm that can initiate change and it is not unusual to find faeries gathering and playing upon the walnuts themselves.
[i] Here I must tell another tale. This happened in a time of my life when something was needed to make my life better. I was not following my present path at this time and was living a totally mundane life. This happened to me the first summer we lived here.(Sorry if this tale is a bit wordy.)
Â*In the middle of our circular driveway are three trees within a large tringle patch of lawn, almost heart shaped. The Maple, a huge ancient blackwalnut and a younger small walnut. I was on our riding mower making my laps in a kind of daydream state. Around the maple, past the big walnut, loop around the little one and back up to the maple, etc, I became sort of hypnotized and was in automatic mode when I happened to glance down at he base of the walnut to make sure I wasn't hitting its roots when I saw plain as day a pair of bright red eyes looking at me from a small dark archway in its base. I would like to say I was freaked out but I wasn't. My thought was sort of " well that's different." I just kept on mowing and when I passed the tree again the dark archway was there but no eyes. I continued mowing, looking every time I passed but didn't see the eyes again. I also became more aware of natural time and eventually was back to normal mode mentally. When I was finished mowing, I walked over to the tree and looked at the base and there wasn't even an archway... This was the event that changed my life. I began reading about nature spirits and was eventually led ( through some other unusual circumstances) to my present life. So after reading the above description of the spirit of walnut and what it can do for you, I feel so lucky that it chose to help me.

WILLOW
Â*The willow is a magickal tree with great mysticism and life to it. It was associated with Orpheus in the Greek tradition and the goddess Brigid in the Celtic. It has a long association with the faerie realm. Its spirit and the elves who live under it are keepers of the knowledge of herbology. The willow tree can speak audibly to us, if we learn to quiet ourselves and listen. It is most discernable at night. The willow spirit often left its tree at night Â*and followed travelers, muttering and speaking to them. Not understanding, most travelers were frightened by this. The willow spirit has knowledge of how to make and use magick wands. The willow tree opens vision, communication and it stimulates great dream activity. The best time to attune to it and its energies and spirit is at night.
