I got this plant at a local supermarket late in the summer and to this date I have not been able to find out what it is. The tag on the pot simply said "greenery". Not much help to say the least.
It is kind of viney, and on the back of the vine, behind the leaves where it meets the stem, little purple flowers came up late in the fall.
Oh shoot, I tried to make it so that the picture of the plant would come up, but I guess you will have to copy and paste on the search bar to see the picture of the plant. If that does not work, please let me know and I will be happy to try something new.
Midnight fire is right. polka-dot plant, Hypoestes phyllostachya is what it is. I read about it a little and following the tips on these little guys, and it is already doing better. I googled it and one of the sites said that it does well with misting, and since I usually mist my areca palm, chinesse ever green and the devil's vine, I just go head and add some mist to the polka-dot plant. I think my next step will be trying to root the cuttings so I can have more. They are trully unique looking plants.
It's a Polka dot plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya)!!! It's a tropical foliage. I LOVE those!! I wish there were decent ones for sale around my town. Anyway, here's a link about them:
I have one of these, too, and have never been able to figure out what it is. Mine tends to flower more often than just the fall, about once every couple of months (2-3.) It keeps self seeding in many of my other plant's pots, too. I've got little baby polka dots growing in a few of the aloes, one of the gerbera daisies, a cactus... lol I haven't been able to actually find any of the seeds yet, either; I suspect they're rather small.
BTW, I got mine from the grocer, too: "Misc. Green Plant $2.99"
