There is also a e-list group dedicated to just that on yahoo groups. Â*It's called The Mystic Rosary Group. Â*If you join, be sure to go to the homepage and look in the files directory. Â*Members are always putting up new stuff and designs and there is a lot of info there. Â*

Actually, I had been trying to figure out how to do this as well. So, in looking at the Catholic Rosary and an article I had found online somewhere I created a ritual/craft for pagan prayer beads. I wrote it for a new book I am writing.

"Different sources will give different directions on how to make a set of pagan prayer beads but a very basic formula is to gather beads in colors that mean something to you. Most pagans are aware of color magick, so choose colors representing what you want the beads to represent. Or, choose purple for a God and Goddess and go with colors of the elements such as yellow for air, blue for water, green for earth and red for fire. Charms can be added to represent your beliefs such as a yin-yang, ankh, cross, pentagram, triquetra or even animal totem symbols.
A simple prayer bead to make is to start with a color of an element (4-6 beads depending on size) and then add the next color for another element and so on. When all 4 elements have been added then add the color chosen for the God or Goddess (purple, silver, gold or any color of your choosing).

Add a charm representing your beliefs and then duplicate the pattern of the beads on the other side of that charm to make a complete necklace. Spacer beads can be added for a cleaner effect. Leave a little room where knotted so that the beads can be moved.

Meditate on each section or each bed and charm and give it meaning, if you can compose short phrases or chants for each section, similar to how the Rosary is said, do so but maybe write it down until you have learned to memorize it. I prefer completely natural materials such as hemp twine and glass or wooden beads, but go with what is comfortable and affordable for you.

For example, in the example given for an elemental prayer bead recite:

“This is air, I am this element; I am free and will bend with the wind.
(like the saying, “what doesn’t bend will break.” Don’t break when adversity hits, but bend with it.)

“This is fire, I am this element; I am passion and all-consuming.
(meaning that you do things passionately and with all of your heart rather than carelessly paying attention or doing something for appearance sake only)

“This is water, I am this element; I am deep and can mold to any shape
meaning that you can adapt to whatever situation you are in, water takes the shape of whatever container it is put in)

“This is earth, I am this element; I am grounded and a part of nature.

“This is spirit, I am this element; I am in the Goddess and she is in me.”

When in need of comfort recite this with each bead or by moving each section until the situation or feelings have passed. It can also be done as part of a morning or evening ritual or prior to any spellwork.
