    A Witch's Familiar

    When you mention the term "familiar" to the average person, they likely
    conjure up the stereotypical image in their mind of a Witch and her black
    cat. It's probably one of the biggest misconceptions that a Witch's familiar
    must be a cat, and in particular, a black cat. It's true that many Witches
    own cats, and some of those cats also are the Witch's familiar. In
    actuality, however, any animal can be a Witch's familiar. A Witch can also
    have more than one familiar or have no familiar at all.




    Today, even among Neo-Pagans, there is confusion surrounding the topic and
    nature of familiars and how they are different from totems and spirit
    guides. So, it's probably best to look at some basic definitions of these
    terms to better clarify their meanings, similarities, and differences.
