• Imbolc, A Celtic Festival

Imbolc is fast approaching. Celebrated on the second of February,it is seen as a time of renewal. We welcome the return of the warmth of the sun. It is the time to look for the first signs of Spring, to freshen our homes and to prepare for the return of the Maiden. The Goddess is seen as a young bride awaiting her consort, and the Cailleach, the crone aspect, is in retreat.

Imbolc is also know as Brigit's Day, Bride's Day, Brigantia, Candlemas and Groundhog Day. Traditionally this is a day to burn candles, relight the hearth and feast on foods rich in milk, cheese and other dairy products. Making and dispaying Brigit Crosses is a fun way to decorate your home inside and out. Also hang spring colored ribbons outside your home in honor of the Goddess so she may add them to her cloak. These are blessed by the Goddess and can be gatherd and used in ritual. I have included a web site that explains how to make the Brigit Cross. Traditional incenses to use are Basil, Myrrh and Wisteria.

If Candlemas be bright and fair
    Winter will have another year
But if it be dark with clouds and rain
Winter is gone, and will not come again
