Re: favorite cartoon growing up
I was in my teens when Rocky and Bullwinkle, Mr Peabody and Fractured Fairytales came out.
I remember my kids watching most of the others you listed.
Saturdau morning was the time for cartoons when I was small.
Programs usually had a set of real charqacters with cartoons in between.
Howdy Doody
Smiley's Gang, Later Andy's Gang
Children's Theater
The Children's Hour.
The Merry Mailman.
Some of the cartoons they featured were:
Very early Micky Mouse, yes Steamboat Willy,
Betty Boop
Farmer Grey
Out of the Inkwell, with a Character called Koko the Clown
Felix the Cat
Popeye
They also showed episodes of the old movie serials. You would tune in every week to see if Copper Head or Batman finally caught the bad guy.

Yes, I remember that being able to watch Saturday morning cartoons was a big thing at my house. Of course, my sister and I had to do our weekly chores of vacumning and dusting the house, cleaning our rooms, washing the kitchen floor, cleaning the bathroom, and hanging the laundry up to dry on the clothesline outside before we could watch any TV whatsoever.Conjurewise wrote:

My older sister was really into Howdy Doody. I remember watching it, but my favorite was Bozo's Big Top that aired after school and ran cartoons inbetween Bozo's segments. When I moved to CA at age nine, there were more cartoons available to watch after school for a couple of hours, and that's when I got into Yogi Bear, Felix the Cat, and the God of Thunder, Mighty Thor. And, oh yeah, how did I forget?? I also really loved the marionette puppet space shows, like Space Patrol, Fireball XL5, and Thunderbirds. They were REALLY cool!

Rocky and Bullwinkle (loved the satire then and really appreciate it now)
Dudley Doright (I now use references to tease the Canadian wife)
The Coyote and Roadrunner (I always rooted for Wile Coyote to nail that darned smug Roadrunner)
And Thelma I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one watching Tooter Turtle and Mr. Wizard!

Re: favorite cartoon growing up
When I was little I LOVED Bravestarr, Thundercats, She-Ra and He-man, Voltron, My Little Pony, and Carebears. and I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle and Felix the Cat.
I also loved ANYTHING Loony Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Bugs, Daffy, Elmer Fudd, the whole lot of them. And there was also G-Force (my brothers and I LOVED that). Animaniacs was a fun one that showed on afternoons after school.
When Cartoon Network first came out they had a series called the Pirates of Dark Water that I absolutely adored, but they discontinued it.
And all of the CartoonCartoons...the original cartoons by Cartoon Network that gave birth to Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken and that poor dog who was forever getting attacked by aliens...there was one called O.Ratz and I'm so sorry that they didn't continue him because he was so sarcastic and I was just at the age where I could appreciate the humor. It was hilarious!

Re: favorite cartoon growing up
Most of us mentioned Felix the Cat. Did anyone know He was a comic strip in the Sunday papers when my mother was a girl. Believe me that was a looong time ago.

Ren and Stimpy! Â*Happy Happy Joy Joy! Â*I was working in a comic shop then and Ren and Stimpy was one of the favorites. Â*Others were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the very first X-Men series (although it drove me crazy because, for some reason, Wolverine had a Scottish brogue.)
I loved the unedited Bugs Bunny cartoons with all the so-called violence and whatnot intact. There was a newer one where Bugs and the lot were youngsters. All I can remember about it was the little girl duck who sat around meditating. Her mantra was, "Om and some junk..." [lol]
When I was a kid, I also watched live action Saturday morning shows: Electra Woman and Dyna Girl; Land of the Lost, H.R. Puffinstuff...
