Organizing Chaos and Pushing on a Rope
Understanding Chaos

You wouldn't know it by looking at my desk, I like things organized, labeled, put where I can find them...... you get the idea. Not that I am a type"A" person just your average type "T". Attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the last 39 years and other events where chaos reigns has taught me that a little organized chaos is good for the soul.
So how do you organize and still have chaos?
You don't, but even in chaos there are recognizable patterns. They ebb and flow as the event progresses holding the fabric together with incredible beauty and simplicity. We often try to describe the process with tools like quantum mechanics, probability, fractal geometry, strings and theology. It does not work with the kind of predictability type "A"'s would like. As I have gotten older the chaos, while still fun, is not what it used to be, now the fun is seeing the ordering influences that hold the chaos together. You won't see this with the theory and math simply because it is a whole. When you try to break this whole down into it's nonexistent constituent parts you lose the binding energies and the whole evaporates. Think back on the parties that were going good until someone tried to instill order in one little corner.
Some day some very bright type "A" person will develop a way to predict and manage chaos, until then I am going to pull down my pants and slide on the ice.
