My inner engineer seems to be asserting itself more and more. About two years ago I had a chance
to use credit card reward points to get mp3 players for my wife and I, A year ago I again used credit
card points to get each of us an Amazon Kindle. Now this year, couple of weeks ago I upgraded
from a fairly standard cell phone to a FREE Blackberry and added texting to my plan. So now I have a
phone that is a far leap ahead of where I was. I can check my email whenever I have 3G or wireless
internet, surf the web (as long as I have my magnifying glass), and send text messages. Mind, cell
phone reception in most of this area is tricksy at best so I have to wait till I get to the big city
to use all the functions.

Today was IPAD launch day, I happened to be in the big city and that doggoned inner engineer
got hooked and bought one of them newfangled things! Even spent the money I had saved up for
a new rifle. I have to admit they are even neater than the advertising says. So now I have another
device to learn about.

Wether or not these gadgets are "worth it" remains to be seen. Personally I don't think I will ever
get to the full fledged technogeek cubicle dwelling Dilbert status but my family and I will get enough
use from these devices to justify the purchase. Now I just have to work all those "apps", ring tones,
music, videos and books into the budget. Mean time - there are plenty of free things like the complete
works of Mark Twain, (a worthy addition to many library), Shakespeare, Legends of the Tuatha De Danna
and many more. The same types things exist for movies, TV shows and music. It boggles the mind!

So I think I'll try to figure out what all these devices do and admit that I am a closet technogeek
